Prosocial Development Among Mexican American Youth

Abstract

Scholars have documented the need for understanding the positive developmental pathways of ethnic minority youth. Research on prosocial behaviors—actions intended to benefit others—is one area of developmental psychology that has begun to address this gap. This article presents a brief review of theories and research on the prosocial development of Mexican American youth. In addition, it describes some of the most significant limitations of the existing empirical research and provides suggestions for the direction of future research.
